My Students

My class is one of seven 1st grades in our district. We are in a rural district, but located close to a metropolitan area. Many of the families have chosen to live in our small town, but they work in the city. Our district encompasses three other small towns in the surrounding area, so we have a pretty large district for our area.

Our district has done a great job of keeping up with the demanding needs to supply a quality education to the students.

We have one to one Chromebooks and are keeping up with the Common Core standards by updating our curriculum on a regular basis.

My Project

The comfortable chairs and ottomans will be a great addition to my classroom. I have been working hard to build an assortment of flexible seating for the kids to use during their independent reading time. The chairs will be placed in our "Reading Corner" and will offer them a fun, and comfortable place to read. The ottomans will be another great flexible seating option. Since they are portable, they can be moved around the room.

Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive.

Research on flexible seating is limited, but it’s clear that learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement.

It is my hope that by making my student's comfortable, it will help to increase their love of reading.
