My Students

Do you remember a time when learning to read was difficult? This is still the case for some of my students. They are spirited, energetic, creative, full of dreams, but they are a bit overwhelmed and need some help with reading skills. They make do with the tools they have but need more. They have great desire and drive, and they want to improve to their best self.

Building and creating motivates and helps my students learn; it helps grow thinkers and doers; people who can create and mold our world.

They are an amazing group of children from all walks of life. Many receive free or reduced-price lunches and have some very unique and tough challenges. We are 70% at the poverty level. This greatly contributes to low levels in reading and math. It poses challenges like getting food, clothing, and good living situations. In spite of all they face, my students are inquisitive, very creative, and inventive. They just need a boost.

My Project

Our students have all been impacted by the Pandemic, and they are working as hard as they can to "catch up." Reading skills have been negatively impacted for sure! VersaTiles will give the students a chance to look at reading differently. They can work on the skills they missed or didn't understand.

Using their hands and their minds- being able to check their own work- gives my students control and power over their own learning.

These tiles allow each child the opportunity to work and learn what they need to become a lifelong reader.
