My Students

Second graders, while only 6, 7 and 8 years old strive for perfection in everything they do and spelling is no exception.

My second graders represent a diverse cross-section of America.

Students' cultural backgrounds range from native New Yorkers to those that are only here temporarily due to their parents' professions. Their energy, intensity, and thirst for knowledge drives me to continue to retool and rethink my teaching in order to inspire and connect with our future generation and make learning relevant!

My Project

Quenching my students thirst for literature is a never-ending goal. Matching books to readers is easier said than done. Having a range of books ensures that every student can find a book that is just right for them.

Graphic novels have taken libraries and bookstores by storm.

The rise of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson have led many children to both discover and re-discover mythology. These George O'Connor graphic novels will fulfill their curiosity about the Greek Gods and Ancient Greece. Graphic novels are accessible, action-packed and visually stunning. I have no doubt that they will bring much delight to the lives of my students!
