Read Like a Rock Star!!! LLS 2nd Annual Reading Project
Help me give my students a supply of picture books to gift to our Kindergarten students for a Summer Vacation Surprise! Two new books will go to each young Blue Devil at the end of the year.
Our Service Learning Program is a class designed to allow Seniors to gain authentic experiences through service to others within our community. Our examination of contemporary societal issues helps to aid in my students' understanding of their society.
My students are 12th graders who want to change the world.
By choosing to be a part of this program, my Seniors have pushed themselves outside their comfort zones for the benefit of their community. By giving back to their community, they are giving themselves valuable experiences to carry with them beyond high school.
My Project
The supplies we have requested in our project will allow us to give back the important gift of reading to our youngest Wickliffe Blue Devils. Each Wickliffe kindergarten student will receive two new picture books to read over the summer. The selected books will be distributed to our Kindergarten students to keep at the end of the school year. The 12th graders will write a note in each book to encourage our kindergartners to keep reading this summer. They will also create decorated bags for which the books will be delivered.

Through our service learning program, some of our seniors have seen firsthand the extraordinary benefits that our Elementary students have received by the literacy enrichment. The service they have performed has been a valuable experience for our youngest Wickliffe students. This project allows my students to fulfill a fundamental need for our little Blue Devils--being the best reader they can be and learning the LOVE of a great book!
