Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, creative, and kind. They love to learn and teach others, and they enjoy reading and writing about books. They are expert researchers, computer coders, scientists, and mathematicians. They are professional kickball and dodge ball players, debaters, artists, and performers. Our school is in East Oakland and serves a socioeconomically disadvantaged student population. The majority of the students are English language learners and qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Our school is making great strides to help our students and put their learning first.
My Project
In order to prepare my students for their lives in the 21st century, teachers need to help kids to be critical thinkers, work collaboratively, think creatively, and to communicate clearly. Not only are students required to read grade-level nonfiction texts, they are also required to conduct their own research, organize their sources, and use technology to present their findings.
Since we already have all the books we need, this project will provide the tools to go above and beyond in our upcoming research clubs.
We will use the book bins and bags to collect and organize sources on our information topics. The chart paper and sentence strips will help us create posters and present our findings. Having new art supplies, like colored pencils, will allow my students to create beautiful and eye-catching visuals. Lastly, clickers for student powerpoint presentations will transform our classroom into a professional learning environment for everyone!
