I teach at a Title I school in a high-poverty area. Students at my school range from preschool through fifth grade and come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Many of the students that attend the school come from non-traditional, low-income families. Out of about 400 students, 85% of the school's population qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. My goal as a teacher is to provide my students with a rigorous, literacy-rich, interdisciplinary, 21st century learning environment.
Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
My students love to be learn through cross-curricular activities that include literacy and experiential activities.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the literacy-rich classroom that I strive to create. Students learn so much better when they are able to hear/read the information in a variety of medias. With these curriculum-inspired books, my students will be able to read, and be read aloud to, to enhance and deepen their learning about the world around them. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy learning.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
My students already have shown an astonishing interest in the topics of space, STEM, and history. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word while inspiring hands-on activities in our classroom to deepen their learning even more.
