Help me give my students materials to help them learn new reading comprehension skills and strategies through partner work, small group discussions, and independent practice.
I teach a class of delightful first graders. My students are highly engaged and motivated to learn. It is important to find fun and interactive activities for them! My students perform at a wide range of levels. I have students who are English as Second Language learners, students with learning disabilities, and students who need enrichment. The students in my classroom come from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The parent-teacher collaboration is what makes our school great and helps our students on the road to success.
The parents in our school are very eager to support their children's learning but many families lack the materials and ideas to do this at home.
My Project
I would like to purchase a variety of reading comprehension activities for my classroom. The students will be able to use in small groups, with partners and for independent practice. As students are transitioning from learning how to read to learning how to read to learn it is important that they have many ways to practice comprehending the text they are reading. An important element for students to develop skills is to discuss what they have read with others. The students will use the questions to discuss information from the text with a partner. If I have a student that is struggling with a particular reading skill or strategy I will be able to send these home for the student to have an engaging activity to practice at home. This packet gives me a variety of activities to meet the needs of the variety of learners within my classroom.
