Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are awesome and they love learning! They are unique and they each bring something special into my classroom. I teach all subject areas to my students. My class of 18 students contains seven students of various disabilities, eight students that are limited English proficiency, and one non-English student.
I teach at a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
They have limited life experiences to draw from, but they have a positive mindset and motivation to learn.
My Project
These books would be a wonderful asset to our classroom library. All the books are Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books for the state of Florida for the 2019-20 school year. They've been recognized as being "the best of the best". They are must haves for students as they can't wait to get their hands on them. Since they are in such demand at my school, sometimes students wait a month or more before being able to read the book of their choice. I would like two of each title to add to our classroom library, so all my students can get the opportunity to read them.
Students are especially motivated to read these books!
If students read the entire collection, they're eligible to participate in our district's annual Book Bowl. It is there where they showcase what they know about each book in a friendly competition between schools. They become part of a team and earn special recognition.
