Our school is in the middle of a large city, and we have a large low socioeconomic population. We have only been open for three years, so we are still "working out the kinks" and trying to get solid systems in place.
Our STEAM program is one of the foundations of our school, and our students look forward to their time spent in the lab!
Next year, we are boosting our younger students' exposure to these topics due to the increased time in the lab. Not only are they learning crucial content, but they are building soft skills, such as problem-solving, logical reasoning, and collaboration.
My Project
In an age of Twitter and texting, it has become increasingly difficult to garner students' attention through longer texts. I am trying to change that by finding engaging books that we can then tie into the subjects that we focus on in STEAM.
In addition to the students wanting to be inspired, I want to be as well!
Education is an ever-changing realm, and in order to stay current, I have also requested some books that will help me keep my units relevant to current times.
Although Reading is not one of the letters in the acronym of STEAM, I feel that my main goal as an educator is to get students excited about learning. By bringing in interesting stories and new lessons, I will more easily be able to accomplish that.
