Help me give my students leveled reader books that they can read at school on their own, in guided reading groups, with big buddies and also the ability to take these books home to read to their parents!
This is my first year in a kindergarten classroom and while I'm absolutely terrified of wrangling a bunch of 5-year-olds for a full day of kindergarten every day, I'm also extremely excited for all of the fun, growth, and play-based learning that happens!
I have a class full of many cultures, backgrounds and some who have never stepped foot in school before starting kindergarten this year, which makes them unique and so much fun to teach and get to know each and every day.
My Project
Having a library full of leveled readers for my kids to use throughout the year will benefit them not only at school, but at home as well. These books will be used in guided reading lessons with me in class, as well as in our take-home reading program where kids will get multiple books a week to read at home with an adult in order to practice reading in many different environments.
I hope to use these books to engage kindergarteners in reading at school and with their parents in order to foster a healthy relationship with reading early on.
When kids are exposed to early reading, they can begin to feel successful and fluent which will create a positive opinion of reading from the start.
I can't wait to get more books into the hands of my kindergarteners and I will have all of you to thank for that!
