My students are 7th graders. They are usually 12 years old when they arrive in my class and turn 13 years old at some point in the year. My students are transitioning into junior high, so they are eager, nervous, and a little overwhelmed. Most of them are ready to take on the responsibility of being a junior high student. The others need a little nudge, but they get there!
I teach in a school that is a part of the school district in Moore.
Five years ago, our district was hit by an F5 tornado during school hours. While none of my students were in the two elementary schools that were demolished, some of them lost their homes and their BOOKS.
One thing I can say confidently about my students is that they LOVE to read. I have slowly built up my classroom library, and the kids love checking out books to read. When it's time to get new books, I let them help pick which books they are interested in reading. I want them to have a great selection to choose from!
My Project
The materials I have chosen will give my students more choices to pick from in the classroom library. If the school library is out of a certain title, students can always check the classroom library for the same title and vice versa.
The kids love series like The Selection, Cinder, and The Maze Runner!
Having these books in my classroom library will give the students more opportunity to read these popular books.
I love giving my students the opportunity to check out books during the school year, over school breaks, and over the weekends! Kids who don't normally have access to books, can have access through the classroom library.
These books will benefit not only my current students but also many students in the future who will get to read these books as well!
