My students come from mostly low-income households and live in the San Jose area. They come from different racial backgrounds and are mostly second language learners.
My kinder students will all be 5 years old by the time they enter their first year of school and will be learning how to count, write and read.
What makes them special is their persistence in wanting to know how to prepare themselves for kinder both educationally and socially.
Students within this community have many different background stories, but they all have the love of learning.
By providing each student in my class with a copy of this wonderful book, they will be able to participate in Read for a Record.
This book will be an initiative for all students to develop a love of reading in the early stages of Kindergarten.
We hope to give students a copy of the book, Thank You Omu!, so that they can access this reading even when they are at home with their families as well. Students will be able to explore the message from the book both in class as well as their home when they are provided with their own copy.
