Help me give my students books to keep reading this holiday! We have selected high interest books they can read themselves and read to siblings. Help them build a language rich home.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This project will serve my progressing English language learners who have worked so hard this year to make strides in their reading and writing skills. They are eager to improve. It is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching to work with them as they struggle with language in school. At home, they balance homework demands with care for siblings, translation for families and other responsibilities. This school is their hope, and they have so little time to build skills.
Student lose ground over holidays when they have no opportunity to continue reading.
Please help us to encourage them to read while they are away!
My Project
Please help us send our students home with a new book, in English, to read for the holidays! Our students have made great strides in their reading and vocabulary development since September. Now they will have two weeks plus the weekends - that's 16 days! - away from reading. Many have no access to books in the home and many live far from libraries or resource centers
Books like The Cossover, El Deafo and Amulet offer high-interest reading at a variety of levels that will help to create a language rich home for whloe families.
It will give students incentive to share reading with siblings!
Help our students keep reading while they are away!
