Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Curious! Eager! Inquisitive! Engaged! These are just a few words that describe the students that I work with every day. The students in Head Start through Second Grade amaze me every day with their love for learning! We desperately need books to put in the students’ hands so they can have the opportunity to develop a love for reading.

Our students need a better supply of guided reading text sets to provide them a variety of text titles to make reading meaningful and exciting.

The requested collections will provide the students with many opportunities to turn the pages of a book and learn about new things while increasing their reading proficiency.

My Project

Picture Walks! Wonderous Words! Interesting Characters! Learning how problems are solved. These are just some of the things students work on in Guided Reading. The requested materials will be used during Guided Reading Lessons where students learn to work with words, improve decoding and fluency, and improve reading comprehension. Students are tested to determine their appropriate reading level and then placed in a text that provides appropriate instruction. Lessons are then designed to help students work toward meeting their grade level standards.

Just imagine the excitement that a new book will create!
