My students need books to support our classroom library which needs to meet the needs of a variety of learners. Our classroom library is in great need of refreshing.
My class is a fun group of eager learners ready for their expectations of fourth grade to be met. It includes children with a variety of special needs, both academically and emotionally, and a wide demographic in a year round school. They know that fourth grade takes a leap in what is expected of them in their educational journey.
They make great gains as they build their growth mindsets, and become more confident, willing and able to investigate and discover.
The range of skills the students bring with them is huge! Right now our reading range is from a first grade reader, to a ninth grade reader. Given this, it is critical that all students are engaged in learning at all times in order to meet the needs of the class. We need active, high interest, student friendly learning opportunities, and materials.
I believe this year to be a critical year in forming a students belief about their own learning abilities, talents, and confidence to try new things even if they are hard. It is so important to me that they leave my classroom with grit and curiosity.
My Project
The books I am requesting will help to refresh the classroom library. Dog Days, The Box Car Children, and Harry Potter are high interest books. Amelia Bedilia is a beloved memory of my early reading years. My class has a wide range of reading ability, so the books selected are to help add to the levels of most need.
We are taking on what is well known as a forty book challenge, which means each child will strive to read forty books within the year.
These books will add to the variety of choices to motivate the students in reaching their goal which will build fluency and comprehension ability.
