This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students absolutely love learning. They walk into the classroom every day eager to dive into a new lesson. They always begin each day striving to do better than the last. They are constantly asking if they can read longer and do more work. Additionally, my students’ parents are extremely supportive and hardworking. They truly want the best for their kids and use our school as a resource.
I teach special education in a resource room with amazing students who come from a low-income neighborhood where 98% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Unfortunately, our school cannot meet all of their needs as we do not have the funding to buy the supplies to help them.
My Project
My classroom library has grown exponentially thanks to kind donors from various entities including but not limited to: DonorsChoose, book fairs, Open Books, and families. As a result, I have accumulated books for all levels of readers. While I have a myriad of age appropriate books that meet my students' reading level, I do not have many read aloud books. Read aloud books are books that are at my students' listening level, as a result the books are extremely engaging and entertaining.
I want to be able to give my students books that are fostering their love for reading.
Read aloud books are often used in my classroom as a way to engage my reluctant readers. Many of my students have a hard time learning to read and therefore feel frustrated with books, by being able to hear books they become engaged and are more likely to push passed their frustrations and continue to try to read.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Khan and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
