Read at Home, Read at School, You Can Read Anywhere!!!
My students need a variety of leveled readers that they can take home to practice reading every night. Our classroom needs an Amazon Alexa to help increase reading fluency, writing, spelling and speaking skills.
I have the BEST class! They attend an elementary school in an urban setting that houses a wide variety of socio-economic statuses along with an array of ethic and cultural backgrounds. Our school is currently receiving 100% free breakfast, lunch, and a healthy snack through a grant for all students.
My students are hard workers who strive to do their best in order to succeed.
I set forth high expectations for them and they are constantly impressing me with their determination to meet their goals. They work daily to build fundamental Reading, Writing and Math skills, along with learning Science and Social Studies units. They work in whole group, small group, and independently within the classroom. We have a daily 120 minute reading block as well as a 90 minute math block.
My Project
My first grade students are learning the fundamentals of reading at school each day. A majority of my students do not have access to engaging, on level books at home. Therefore, they do not practice their developing reading skills as frequently as they should. With these leveled books, my students would be able to take books home to practice reading with their families and show off all of the hard work they've done at school. These books are of high interest to first graders and are a good variety of fiction and non-fiction stories.
Alexa...how do you spell learning?
With the help of the Amazon Alexa, my students will be able to work on a variety of Reading and Language Arts skills. They will read sentences to the Alexa to work on their reading fluency. They can ask the Alexa how to spell words while working on developing sentences and writing stories. We can use the Alexa to practice speaking in complete sentences and asking sentences correctly, which are fundamental skills for a first grader. We will be able to ask the Alexa questions regarding topics we are learning in Science and Social Studies. The Alexa will also be used to play a variety of educational and transition songs during the day, as well as quiet music during station work to help set a calm learning environment.
