Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach tenth grade World Literature in an Illinois high school. I teach in a high need community, and I have many highly motivated students. Many of my students have not been outside the city limits, let alone outside of the country.

My students have not been exposed to much young adult literature that exposes them to cultures outside of their own. This does not mean they are not interested. In fact, one of my students commented on a blog we have that "reading can take you all around the world and show you things you've never seen."

I am asking for a library of young adult world literature to feed the hunger my students have for learning about people who are different than them. These books will not only expand my students' horizons and prepare them for worlds outside their own; it will empower them to believe in themselves as global readers and citizens.

Your help will give my students the excitement to keep on reading. Your generous donations are truly appreciated by my students. You will be impacting students in the greatest way possible: by exposing them to something that makes them want to learn more.
