Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I could not ask for better students if I tried. They show up with such an eagerness and willingness to engage and learn everyday. I teach 3rd grade reading in a Title 1 district, and many of my students from our small community come to school without needed supplies or parent support. For several students, their only opportunity to read any book is when they are at school. For this reason, I am building up a diverse classroom library to give these children the opportunity to “see the world” from the safety of our classroom. These amazing creative, hard-working, and eager students will be world changers if they are only given the chance.
My Project
Every human being is different, and so are their reading preferences. I want my classroom library to cater to every reading preference possible. I hope that every child who walks into my room, no matter their beliefs, background, or social status, will find many books in which they can relate. I already have the shelves in my room. Now my students need the books. Most of my students do not have books at home, and all they know of the world is what our small farming community has to offer. These books will provide them with the opportunity to read around the world all from the safety of our classroom or their home.
