My Students

How can we use storytelling in other languages to encourage literacy and inquiry? This question will be at the heart of our work as students find fun and engaging ways to share stories in Spanish and picture books with other World Language students. Students will develop an in-depth knowledge of their characters and bring the excitement of presenting the story in another language by reading aloud to one another. Our students are passionate readers and writers who want to share the gift of storytelling. What better way to do that than to introduce them to stories in Spanish and encourage them to "make" their characters come alive?

Our students are curious, compassionate, and creative storytellers.

They love to read and share stories. Their reading aloud will build community through story and encourage one another to practice in their target language and find meaning in multiple texts.

Reading picture books in another language encourages students to reinvent themselves and "make" their character and their passion for the story come alive.

My Project

Are you fascinated by the power of story? We are looking for ways to build community and encourage students to come together to share stories with one another. We want to build community and instill the joy of reading. We want to remind students that we are never too old for the lessons learned and the joy experienced at storytime.

Each turn of the page presents a new journey, an opportunity for us to let our imagination and creativity soar while learning in our target language of Spanish.

The use of picture books is a source of enjoyment and inspiration for our students. Picture books remind us of our favorite books as a child and reading picture books, whether as an independent reader or as a shared reading experience, builds language skills and fosters critical and creative thinking.

We are never too old to be read to and a shared experience of hearing beautiful stories read in our target language continues to build our community.
