My students are certainly ready to learn each morning when they walk in my classroom. We are at a Title I School in South Carolina and our students come from varied economic and ethnic backgrounds. We are blessed to have many nationalities represented at our school. Sharing experiences, responding to a book, reading with a buddy, and writing about what they discover are all happening in our classroom on any given day. As their teacher I want to equip them as best I can in order to help them be world changers wherever they go!
A few years ago I was able to use some grant money to purchase materials for a raised garden bed and plant a yearly garden. We continue this each year. We have been able to share our produce with our students and many of our families will pick up vegetables when they come by the school during the summer.
The garden and courtyard are a favorite spot for our students and teachers.
I would like to make this special spot even more fabulous! Many classes enjoy going out there to read on nice days, but we do not have enough seating for the classes. I would like to add more seating options for classes or small groups to enjoy reading outside. It also allows the students to observe the garden's progress and maybe pull a weed or two while there!
