My Students

"I can't do it!" Simply adding one tiny word, "yet" quickly changes the mindset of our students. That's my goal for my students each year...how to get from, "I can't do it!" to "I can't do it, yet!" to "Wow, look what I was able to accomplish!" The students in my classroom are learning the importance of innovation, global awareness and empathy, critical thinking and problem solving, and iteration (repeating something in order to get the desired result). We are a "doing" classroom, a "thinking" classroom, and a "collaboration" classroom. Cultivating curiosity...that's our thing!

My Project

Many of my students are below grade level in reading, can’t contain their energy or remain focused long enough to read for any chunk of time. Studies show a correlation between minutes read daily and projected achievement. Because many of my students aren’t reading at home, we have daily sustained reading in class daily. But, for some of my kids, even that is impossible for more than a few minutes. If my students had the opportunity to use one of these two bikes while reading, it would help them to pay attention simply because they would be moving! Read and Ride would give students the freedom to choose movement and reading at the same time!
