Students come to me as freshmen and train all the way through high school when they graduate as seniors at a Career and Technical High School. This type of high school is the first of its kind in my district.
My students are dedicated to learning about the culinary field, forgoing the chance to join band, sports or any other clubs.
My students earn dual credit and industry certifications to help them pursue a career in the culinary field. By the time they graduate high school they have the opportunity to earn an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Culinary Arts.
My Project
While my students are so excited to get into the kitchen and start doing hands-on work in the kitchen, we fall behind in areas of reading and writing. Students need to read and write fluently in almost any profession. Electronic communication is on the rise and culinary arts needs to keep up.
I want to give them the tools and practice to succeed not only in standardized testing but in business and professional communication.
Providing time and reading material relevant to culinary arts and the industry my students want to pursue, can help them read more fluently and with greater understanding.
