This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are 10-11 year olds, with a mix of students with special education requirements and students at general ed level.

I am a brand new teacher starting with nothing.

I was hired with only two weeks to go before school starts, so I haven't been able to get everything we need.

My students are great kids, just need some structure. With the new balanced literacy program in our district, they will get that! But we need to get a place for them to sit during read aloud time.

My Project

Our district recently implemented a new curriculum for reading/writing/ELA, called Balanced Literacy. In this new program, we read aloud to the students each day. One need is a place for the students to come sit in the front of the classroom while I read to them.

Right now, my students are sitting on the bare floor during read alouds.

These carpets get expensive, and the district can't buy every teacher a new rug. I am a new teacher, so I had to buy everything else for my classroom, and this is one of the last things we are in need of.
