This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarten is a special time for students! It is when students start to build a love for school, reading, success and so much more. It is my goal to make sure that I am setting all of my students up for success, not only for first grade, but for the rest of their educational career.
Many of my students have great obstacles to overcome which is why it takes a team.
All of my students receive free lunch. Many are performing below grade level. There are also students who have already experienced significant trauma in their short lifetime such as homelessness, death and neglect. I try hard to make sure my students are set up for success as much as possible while in my classroom!
My Project
In my kindergarten classroom my BIGGEST goal as a teacher is to get my students to fall in love with books. One of the major ways I am able to do this is through books read together as a class or a read aloud. Having a book read to you as a child not only helps build a love for books also develops literacy and language skills.
Help give me a wide variety of books to help build my students love of reading and literacy and language skills.
These books will be used a weekly themes throughout the entire year. We will spend the whole week reading parts of each book and diving deep into the vocabulary, characters and story elements. Ultimately, these book will help me with achieving my goal of having my students leave my classroom in love with books!
