Our class 3-202 consists of amazing third graders who are hungry for learning and the English language. They love to come to school everyday! They face the challenge of not just learning, but also learning in a foreign language! What I have observed is that besides the teachers in our school and television, these children have relatively little exposure to rich, natural, native English on a regular basis. Read-alongs, in which students can listen to a CD/cassette of a story being read as they interact with the text, provide students with immense support in the development of their English language skills. In our classroom, students will rotate on a regular basis to the listening center, where they actively listen to the text and have the chance to follow along with their own personal copy of the book. We have few actual sets of multiple copies of books. I have recorded myself several times with individual books, but multiple sets would allow greater access. These children struggle greatly to read at grade level. Because they are so challenged, they often become quickly discouraged, which can be disastrous. Providing this scaffold will give them the boost in confidence they need while greatly improving their literacy skills! Please consider us! Thank you for taking the time to learn about 3-202!
