My Students
My students come from different parts of the world including Mexico, England, and parts of Central America. They are enthusiastic, persistent learners. We work hard every day as scientists, artists, mathematicians, scholars, and friends.
At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.
The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the potential for greatness and a great need for resources.
My Project
Students will develop empathy from reading Wonder, a book about a boy with physical deformity dealing with making new friends in middle school.
With a book of their own to read along with the read aloud, students will be more focused, become more fluent readers, and develop a more thorough comprehension of the story; students who are good readers have greater success in every area of school and life.
Reading aloud is a proven technique to increase reading skills and develop vocabulary at a higher reading level than the students are reading. When students can hear AND see the words reading growth will be greater. With this project, the goal is to develop the life skills of empathy and reading.
