This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is alive with curiosity. My kids are advocates for themselves and what they want to learn. My students have expressed enormous interest in having a listening center as yet another way to eat their way through books.
The school our classroom is in is a newer school, feeling the growing pains of budgets and resources.
But each classroom of scholars and teachers is trying their utmost to make real, genuine learning happen. My students are vivacious and funny. They like to laugh and they like to learn.
My Project
These materials will be added to our literacy block as one of the may-do options for students. They will listen and read in small groups and one student will be selected and trained as discussion leader. With more students occupied, I can pull small groups to work on reading intervention work. With this center my students will learn leadership skills, self-motivation and monitoring, and have a ton of fun listening to some awesome stories being read.
This center will impact us two fold.
First that my students will have another offering available to them to learn and enjoy reading. Second is that I will be able to focus more on another small group and offer them more focused and tailored lessons.
