My students need a spiral binding machine and supplies to create differentiated materials for our centers.

We are an inclusion program in an urban school located in a community that has limited resources. We are a very diverse group that includes students with a variety of learning differences and needs. Many of my students have sensory and gross motor needs that we address throughout the day. As a result, we need more materials, and a wider variety of materials, than a typical classroom would contain.
Materials that encourage the creativity of designing a series of tasks and then the cooperation and determination to complete those tasks will support my students physical, emotional, social, and academic needs.
Because of these differences, we need more options for materials to use in order to be engaged and successful in our classroom family. We work to encourage everyone to do their best and try to find fun, engaging ways to support our growth.
We utilize a play-based curriculum in my classroom and in order to meet the diverse needs of my students, we create many of the thematic materials collaboratively to reach each child on their unique level. These materials are used daily in multiple centers throughout each specific theme to support my students communication, as well as play in realistic situation that will encourage using math, literacy, scientific, and interpersonal skills to utilize the center to its potential. By creating bound books which include the specific vocabulary, thematic concepts, and interaction possibilities, all of the students in my class will be able to participate fully in the center and take on roles and actions that are appropriate.
Whether the pediatrician in the hospital nursery, the chef at a restaurant, a family member, or a hiker looking for wildlife, my students will use the materials that we will be able to create with these supplies to meet their individual needs while interacting with peers during our make-believe play block.
These opportunities will allow my students to build foundational skills in a developmentally appropriate setting that will help them be successful throughout their lives. Being able to interact with others and apply skills to problem solve, cooperate, and be creative are goals that we are achieving daily in our room. These supplies will help us reach those goals more fully.
