Mrs. Linz from Dayton OH is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need nonfiction reading materials that will keep their interest and help them learn to analyze text.
I work with high school students with special needs. All of my students have a diagnosed mental health disorder or behavioral disorder. Many of my students struggle in school and have struggled for many of the years they have been in school.
In my classroom we are a family.
Relationships and high expectations are the number one thing that can help these students be successful. They desperately want to belong somewhere and I try every day to make our classroom that place for them.
More and more is being asked of our students every day. They need to be able to read non-fiction text and analyze it through writing. More often than not, the material my students are given to work on these skills are at a level they cannot understand. This leads to frustration and then they shut down.
You cannot analyze something you don't understand.
These magazines are written at an interest level to grabs my students attention. Not only that, the articles are written at a reading level that my students can work with. When they can read and understand an article, they are better able to work on the skills needed to be a successful reader and writer.
