Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I loved school when I was a student. It is my goal that my students love school just as much as I did. It's one of the reasons why I choose teaching. I try to provide a clean, safe and inviting room environment for my students. I also take pride in creating challenging and memorable lessons.
My students come to school each day with a desire to learn.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners. My school is a 100% free lunch school located in the inner city outside of Los Angeles, California. We work hard to create a community of scholars that will leave us ready to tackle the world on their journey to successful entry college and beyond.
My Project
My students love reading, we spend at least 30 minutes each day when they "Drop Everything And Read". I have been exposing them to a variety of genres and their favorite is Biographies. They love to read about the lives of influential people in our world. Using the WHO WAS books they will be able to read about politicians, musicians, artist, dreams, inventors, explorers, sports stars. My student to have access to high quality literature to provide them with a chance to read about these historic figures.
After reading these books, my students will complete special projects such as dioramas, timelines, plays, puppets, models, written reports, oral presentations, and imovies showing their understanding of these special people and their influence in our lives.
They will form book clubs to discuss the lives these influential figures had on our current society. It is my hope that these WHO WAS books will provide a hook into a love of biographies, but also a strong foundation into the history of this great country.
