Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school in South Carolina. All 20 of my amazing students receive free lunch. Therefore, most have limited resources at home and have many hardships to overcome. Therefore, what they receive at school (food, clothing, love, and a quality education) is of the utmost importance.
Every day our amazing students come to school not just ready to learn but excited to learn!
It is a privilege to watch them learn and grow at school. Many then take what they have learned home to teach their younger siblings and in some cases teach their parents how to read, or even how to speak English. Their love of learning is contagious!
My Project
My students are learning how to read and write informational texts. In addition, in science we have two upcoming units we will be learning about (animals, their classifications, and their habitats and the weather). We love integrating our learning. Soon, we will be completing research projects and creating our all about informational books.
In order to read and write informational texts, we need to have access to mentor informational texts within our classroom.
We will utilize these texts to learn about informational writing, text features, and the different structures of texts. Then we will use these texts as a research tool to gather facts about our research topics. What better way to grow as readers, writers, and scientists!
