My Students

Third graders are wonderful students to work with. They are thinkers, problem solvers, and investigators who desire to solve the problems of the world they are growing up to lead.

I get to work at an amazing Title One elementary school that is filled with students from all over the world.

I love working with third grade students because they are inquisitive about real world events.

Third grade students are often at a place in their learning where many of them are reading to learn new information and are able to apply their new knowledge in everyday life.

My Project

This class subscription to Scholastic News will help my students interact with nonfiction texts that connect with our Social Studies and Science Standards. The articles also allow students to practice using their nonfiction text reading skills to help them grow in their comprehension skills.

Since many of my students are English Language Learners, the photographs and diagrams will help them to comprehend the text and expand their own vocabulary while they learn about the world outside the classroom.

Scholastic News is a great resource that can be used in a variety of ways. I have used them for whole group discussions, guided reading, buddy reading, comprehension checks, and research projects. Students always enjoy getting their own copy of Scholastic News and engaging with the text.
