This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade in a low income community. Most of these children never leave their neighborhoods. They are bright, curious children who crave knowledge. During lessons, they question things most of us take for common knowledge. Through reading, my students can experience the world and it costs them nothing. Having ample non-fiction reading for my students can be life changing for them. Not only can they learn about the world, but they can be inspired with the knowledge that amazing things to happen!
My Project
These materials will help my students grow their background knowledge. This will allow a deeper understanding of the skills being taught and ignite curiosity to learn more. These books will give the children opportunity to enrich their learning through reading and writing about a certain topic. Please allow my students to have access to material that will allow them to find the answers to their questions on their own. Being problem solvers is such an important skill and allowing them to research on their own builds learning skills they need through life.
