I am a fourth grade reading, writing and social studies teacher at a Title I school in Virginia. My two classes consist of approximately fifty students, including students receiving special education services, English Language Learners, as well as gifted learners.
For many of my students, school is more than just a place to learn, but a source of stability and nurturing.
Some of my students have been through more in their young lives than most adults. My hope is to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn! Over the years, I have worked very hard at turning our classroom into our "Home Sweet Classroom"!
As a child, I was a struggling reader. In fact, I hated reading. This is something that I am very open about with my students because I know many of them wear the same shoes as I once did. However, I have developed a profound love for children's literature, so here we are today! I pride myself on making reading fun by selecting powerful and fun literature to share with the students.
Ask any student or staff at Crossroads what our superpower is and they will all tell you the same thing, Reading! Over the past several years, we have made a big push to improve our reading as a school. So it goes without saying that Read Across America Week is a big celebration in our building! Each year, we hold a spirit week filled with fun activities and silly things to do!
The materials in this project will be used as a way to celebrate and promote reading within our school.
We are a pre-k through eighth grade school with almost nine hundred students! Each day we have a different theme and students receive tickets for participating. Then at the end of the week, we do drawings for prizes. The rest of the items in this project will be used for our prizes!
The mustache stickers are for "I MUSTACHE you what book you are reading?" day! The kids have a blast wearing the silly stickers around all day.
