This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 7th and 8th grade students who come from low income backgrounds and live in low income neighborhoods. Despite their backgrounds my students have never let this stop them from being their very best and achieving their highest potentials.
My students are very outgoing and goal oriented.
Many of my students are already beginning to plan for their futures in high school with their hearts set on achieving honor roll throughout the year in order to ensure they are accepted into a great high school.
My Project
Many times my students come into my classroom without the necessary materials that they need and one of those materials are book bags. While I have taken it upon myself to seek out other resources such as "Cleveland Kids In need" unfortunately teachers are limited to how many items they are able to get. As a teacher I like to use all means to get what is necessary for my students and while "Cleveland Kids In Need" is one way of getting needed materials for my students it only goes so far and I do not want to stop there trying to provided my students with the essentials. I have many students whom this donation would benefit.
In addition I also like to use any extra book bags as incentives for my students.
As my students take their state test and district tests I use like to create a little competition to motivate my students. Typically my student(s) with the highest improvement in their scores I give them a free book bag full of school supplies. This reward for their outstanding improvement is always something my students are excited about and I want to continue to push my students and motivate them to reach their potentials.
