My students are hardworking, loving, and passionate learners in the classroom. Despite the struggles they face from poverty and trauma at home, they come to school every day with a smile on their face and ready to learn. They are future leaders and world changers!
As a middle school English-Language Arts teacher, a majority of my students struggle daily in class as they are below grade level in reading.
My students are challenged by a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts throughout the year. In order to build their confidence and reading abilities, I must differentiate my instruction to meet their individual needs.
My Project
To meet the needs of my struggling readers I must provide them with content at their current reading level to strengthen their abilities and confidence in reading. One way that I do this in my classroom is through small group teaching and stations where students work with peers who are reading at a similar level. In order to best meet their various reading levels, I need lower level content to use in my instruction.
With the reading instruction materials in this project, I will be able to provide my readers with an array of fiction and nonfiction texts and comprehension activities at their level.
The leveled readers with allow me to guide my small group instruction and provide my students with the extra support they need. The games will allow my students to work with their peers during stations and practice their literacy and social skills. The task cards will allow students to get hands-on with their learning independently or with a partner. These activities will help my readers feel successful as they learn to enjoy reading!
