Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, hardworking, and love to learn!
They are eager to read new books and they are so creative!
Several of my students are English language learners. The majority of them are low-income, and many were impacted or displaced by Hurricane Harvey. In fact, many in our community are still facing the impact of this storm many months later. For example, our local city library is still under repair, and students cannot use this vital resource. In spite of this, their resilient spirit shines bright every day! They have quickly gone through all of the books that I bring to the classroom and always ask for more.
My Project
I am seeking to put five iPads in my classroom in order to enable my students to leap to the next level in their reading, spelling, and math skills. My students love to read and have quickly gone through every book that I have put in the classroom. With our local library under repair since Hurricane Harvey, they need access to books more than ever. I would love to use these iPads to give them access to hundreds of leveled readers in the classroom each day through Epic! and other eReader apps. I would also love to use them to enhance their science, spelling, and math skills through apps like Spelling City and Splash Math. Apple’s latest technology makes this more accessible than ever through Apple Teacher and Apple Classroom which are designed specifically for the classroom and made for the iPad.
