My students need iPad minis with cases to access ELA, math and content area information. I am asking for 2 iPad minis and 3 cases. (I won a third mini in a raffle!)

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When school starts, I will have a 6th grade class that is full of dreamers, thinkers and doers! Although we are sorely lacking in some of the material items we need to be a "21st Century" Classroom, they will accomplish more than they thought they could this year and be proud of themselves.
Our school is a Dual Language, Title 1A provisional school.
We have over 50% English Language Learners, with Spanish being the predominant native language. Students here receive both free breakfast and lunch daily. They come from all walks of life, from experiencing family, home and financial stability to homelessness and frequent familial upheaval. But most importantly, they come to our school to learn and be cared for.
I am a passionate believer that we can ALL accomplish great things given the right supports. As a former special education teacher, and now 6th grade teacher (by choice!) I have seen the power that technology has in "leveling the playing field."
My Project
At present, we have two classroom PCs. Both are slow and outdated and can truly only be used for word processing. I recently won an iPad mini (YES!) and am excited to share this technology with my students. However, one mini for a classroom of students will make it challenging to give access to all students daily. With additional iPad minis, I will be able to allow small groups of students to access the minis daily in a rotation for reading, math and content groups. In my classroom we will use them to listen to text being read aloud so that ALL students can hear grade-level materials. We will access math manipulative and skill-building apps. During our content area times we will be able to research current events, historical information and use science apps for labs.
Steve Ballmer said, "The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do.
It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential." I want to help ALL of my students to reach their potential. This donation will help students in my classroom access learning and express their thinking in new and exciting ways!
