Ms. Guerra from Miami FL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need leveled books and a new carpet to complete their classroom library.

Every day my pint-sized voyagers come to my class with smiles so bright that it can be easy to forget about the giants they battle against. While they possess an eagerness to learn that is hard to match, my students cannot fully embark on their mission until they have the resources they deserve.
What my voyagers lack in height (they're in Kindergarten), they make up for with their vibrant personalities and ambitions.
They are like all wonderful children who yearn for adventure and enchantment, but the difference lies in their access to opportunity. All of my students come from low-income backgrounds and most of their parents can scarcely afford the most basic of school supplies. Furthermore, my students attend one of the lowest performing schools in our county and have no access to any enrichment classes. They are expected to learn to read at grade-level, yet they do not have access to the appropriate differentiated texts. Without access to differentiated texts it is easy for students to become frustrated and stagnant in their reading journey, creating a downward spiral of "catch-up" in the upper grades.
My voyagers and I are on a mission to the stars, but we can only get there through the world of books and our very own magic carpet. We need books that will meet the needs of each of my students so that they can become explorers in their own right and gain confidence in their reading abilities. Now is the time that my students are first being introduced to books and these resources will help me nurture their curiosity for this new world. Through differentiated texts my students will learn to read and will have a wide array of books to choose from to match their unique interests.
An encounter with a child is a window into one of the purest forms of hopes and dreams.
To be a part of the hopes and dreams of my voyagers is a privilege, and I have no intention of squandering it. Kindergarten is a pivotal year in their lives and we must make sure that their foundation is solid. Please help my little voyagers get the resources they need and deserve. In return, we promise to remember you in all of our voyages and love you to the moon and back.
