"I am a 'CAN DO KID'!" These are the words you will hear my students chanting throughout the school year. I want my students to believe in themselves and love learning. I love teaching kindergarten because the students have so much enthusiasm and excitement for school. They come eager to learn and excited for what the day will bring.
I want to instill a lifelong love for reading in each of my students.
We fill the classroom with books that fulfill a variety of reading levels and interests. We provide ample opportunities to read books, listen to books, and act out books.
I have a classroom of 24 kindergarten students with varying backgrounds, ethnicity, and needs and abilities. We are a Title 1 school with many of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch . Some of our students come to us with years of preschool experiences and others come with no previous school experience.
My Project
I want to inspire my kindergarten students to become life long readers. Students all learn at a different pace. Kindergarten students all start school at different levels. Some come to school knowing all the letter names and sounds, while others come to school not knowing the difference between a letter and number. I would like these leveled books so I can reach all of my students, whether they are struggling learners or above grade level.
Small group guided reading instruction is a perfect way to differentiate my student's learning.
Using these leveled readers and lessons will create opportunities to differentiate learning, develop strong reading strategies, increase comprehension and fluency. My ultimate goal is to create confident readers and instill the love of reading and learning in my students.
