Reach For The Stars

My students need a Sky Scout device that identifies over 50,000 celestial objects.

WANTED: Future Astronauts, rocket scientists and astrophysicists. My rural, high-mountain, high school astronomy students are reaching for the stars.

Our location allows for high quality star gazing which also creates difficulty for students to discern between the many celestial objects in the sky. Due to our rural location, our budgets are quite small and don't allow purchases of "extra" equipment. This piece of star gazing equipment will tremendously increase the student's comprehension of the night sky .

The Sky Scout is a relatively affordable piece of equipment that is very easy to use. Students point the device at any bright object and in seconds the computer will tell students the name of the object and provide a comprehensive text about the star, planet or nebula. Students can use this to understand the HR diagram of star life cycles, the seasonal appearances of constellations and also align the telescope that they are challenged to operate. The opportunities are endless and the device will allow students to practice 21st century technology skills as they learn astronomy.

Your contribution will allow students to understand the majestic night sky with a level of detail that is not easily accessible. The sky scout allows students of all learning styles and abilities to begin space exploration.
