Our global education charter school draws families from Washington Heights, the Bronx and Manhattan.
By bus or walking, they arrive in Harlem every day with their curiosity, full of ideas and raw ambition.
Coronavirus-19 has hit us HARD. Online school is up and running. However, our learners are often on their own with no materials and in a relative's household, since parents continue to work at high-risk jobs in public transportation, grocery stores, and hospitals.
A diverse-by-design Title I school, many learners are also from families who speak Spanish, Russian, French, Grebo, and Hebrew in the home. 100% of our students receive free lunch.
My Project
My students are in grades with increasingly dense and complex literature. On-line learning during school closure is happening, but materials and school supplies in the home are scarce.
Children I work with need ELL and/or Special Education support to advance when reading.
These re-usable 72-page notebooks and markers are ideal to help my students participate and interact during our online class, and in small groups for when we return. Notes, timelines and drawings can be taken and shared.
Themes in classics like The Odyssey are understood better when students can reference their notes and draw graphic organizers.
Thank you so much for making this happen for my multi-lingual, talented and motivated students! We will re-use the notebooks for new groups again and again.
