Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade classroom is full of the brightest kids in New York! They inspire me every day with how much they learn as they ask brilliant questions and never stop wondering about the world around them. While their brains have no shortage of questions, we do have a shortage of basic supplies!
My fifth grade class is a wonderful bunch of kids with widespread interests and talents.
They have overcome many obstacles growing up in a low-income/high-need urban community, and continue to surprise me with their resilience and hard work every day. My students are genuinely excited to learn. Their families try their best to provide them with the supplies they need to start the school year, but as the year wears on, notebooks fill up, paper supplies dwindle, and pens run out of ink. It's harder for families to meet these obligations around the holidays.
My Project
Schools in low-income communities do not always have the resources their counterparts in middle- and upper-income communities have. Basic school supplies such as paper, pens, markers, and pencils are not so “basic.” After all, most of the students cannot afford to bring in the supplies and the school does not have a budget that allows them to provide most of the necessities that make a classroom work. Without the most basic school supplies, students have a hard time learning. After all, who can practice their writing skills without paper and pencils?
Basic school supplies such as paper, pens, and markers will be used by students for individual and group work. They will use these materials in all subjects: math, reading, writing, social studies, science... even art! As they work to publish writing pieces and put together science projects, your donation will come into play!
Your generous contribution to our classroom will ensure that all students have basic supplies so that they are able to learn.
The paper, pencils, and markers you provide students with will be used day after day, across all subjects, as they develop as fifth grade scholars!
