My students need new Rubbermaid storage totes to replace our old costume boxes that are falling apart, and smaller storage boxes to organize accessories and small props.
One of my favorite things about teaching in the Auburn School District is the incredible amount of diversity that our students bring to each classroom. They come from all around the world, with a variety of passions, desires, goals, and dreams. I work with performers of all shapes, sizes, abilities, and skills to help them share their diversity through plays, musicals, and showcase performances every year.
The performing arts allow every student the opportunity to grow personally and individually, while providing valuable artistic input into the community.
Giving these students a chance to be artistically introspective ensures that when they graduate, they'll have a greater awareness of both themselves, and the world around them. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than helping a student reach the ah-ha moment of understanding and see connections between their own lives and the larger scope of society.
My Project
The ARHS Theatre Department needs to be able to find costumes quickly and efficiently. While our system works pretty well for that, it's aged over the years, and needs some updating.
The boxes that our costumes are currently stored in are falling apart.
These totes will provide some rigid structure that will contain many of our fabulous costumes, and allow us to label each box with the contents. (The solid sides will help the classroom look a little more organized too, which will help Ms. N regain some sanity too).
There are also many small props and accessories and student materials that float around in the storage closets in the classroom. The small storage containers will allow us to sort, organize, and store these items safely for future shows.
