Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
School is a safe haven for my students amidst a turbulent community environment. They are diverse, in grades K-5; they are bright, funny, smart, compassionate, and caring individuals who have a great sense of loyalty for their families and their friends.
My students are roses in the concrete; despite the barrenness of their environment, they continue to grow.
I cannot say how many times I've seen kids in difficult circumstances rise above their differences and actively choose peace and understanding.
My Project
The Cove is ever-expanding; we are getting organized this year and learning how to put supplies in the right place, which means we are showing more responsibility, which means we can do more things as a school! We are also becoming an AVID school, which means that we, as a staff and families community, are working on goals to be college bound.
We are doing way more projects and activities for larger groups of students this year!
It's really exciting and we will need the basics, from ink to markers and paper to learn more about ourselves and about each other. Being creative in the Cove is something that we use to do projects such as "#LikeAGirl" where we use Mod Podge and paper to make collages of what a girl really is, or taking plastic bottles and turning them into calming jars with glitter glue that we end up using throughout the year.
I am hoping to use the Cove more and more as a place where new ideas for student involvement and displaying our talents.
