Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten at a Title I school in California. My school is a large, urban public charter school operating within LAUSD, serving grades PreK through 12.
My students are bright, energetic and resourceful, and they are the reason I look forward to coming to work every day.
My school has a 99% minority enrollment and of those students, 97% are economically disadvantaged. Just in my class, I have students that are without homes and students that live in multiple family dwellings. Yet, my students come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn every single day. My little learners are truly amazing!
My Project
I am asking for a gift card to the website “Teachers Pay Teachers.” This site is filled to the brim with teacher created resources that are aligned with content standards but designed to be culturally relevant and engaging to students. I’ve been teaching Kindergarten 100% online since last March and it’s been a challenge.
My little ones have short attention spans and keeping them interested is even harder through a screen.
I’ve purchased some resources from this website (out of pocket) and they’ve been a hit with my class - but unfortunately it looks like online learning will continue indefinitely and my little ones are starting to become bored of the few activities I’ve been using all year.
I know that introducing new digital games & activities for them to learn with is important for both their mental health & academic progress. These resources can all be used in the classroom on my SmartBoard when we are able to learn safely in the classroom once more, so they will not go to waste!
