This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is both a blessing and a curse. It provides us with a way to engage students like never before. We can take them all over the world, yet nothing replaces the journey we experience when we come across the right book.
In West Texas, kids are limited in their life experiences.
Unless their family is lucky enough to have the money to travel, and many of my students aren't so lucky. They do not get to experience the world outside of their small town. Having everyday access to books that cover a wide range of topics in a multitude of settings will help to open up the world for them.
My Project
I would just like to begin building my classroom library, so that my students will have various forms of literature at their disposal day after day. I plan on providing incentives for students who read these books regularly and hope to inspire those non-readers by having a variety in which they are sure to find something they like.
Reading is the basis for everything in our society.
Books open up a world of possibilities, even for these small-town kids who can't imagine a life outside of this place. By providing those books inside the classroom, which is a safe, comfortable environment, I feel they will be more like to read them.
