Do you remember what it was like to discover the world of books? The feeling you had when you realized you had the ability to unlock the stories on the pages? Now imagine how you'd feel if you didn't have enough appropriate books? Help give access to a variety of interesting books for all readers.
My students are amazing.
They are eager and active learners who have the ability to learn quickly. They look forward to coming to school every day and they treat each other with respect. They work hard and they have the capacity to produce high-quality work. They are avid readers and published authors. They are diverse group children including many children who speak more than one language. They have become a family -- always watching out for each other and working hard to help each other. Unfortunately we do not have a sufficient amount of books in our library to meet the diverse reading needs of the entire class.
They love reading typically bringing home two books a night. They need more books in our class library to help keep them interested and motivated.
My Project
I am requesting leveled books for our class library. A leveled library will give students the opportunity to read books that are engaging and matched to their reading needs. It will motivate them to read and give them the tools they need to grow as confident readers.
Our classroom library serves as the primary source of reading materials for our students. Unfortunately with a significant increase in the students in my class this year combined with varied reading levels in the class ranging from level D-M my library can’t sufficiently meet the needs of our class. While I have been able to borrow books at times to help supplement our library, the classroom library is not extensive enough to appropriately meet the needs of our diverse readers. Access to a variety of interesting books is a key component of reading success. A sufficient leveled classroom library not only fulfills different proficiencies of the class but accommodates students' growth and builds confidence.
An appropriately supplied leveled class library will do much more than give the gift of reading.
A leveled library will give students the opportunity to read books that are engaging and matched to their reading needs. It will motivate them to read and give them the tools they need to grow as confident readers. These books will provide the class with the resources to adequately meet everyone’s diverse reading needs.
