This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss's words ring true, and I want my students to develop or retain their passion for reading while improving their reading levels.
Since it is a national epidemic that students are reading below grade level, our goal is to improve students reading level by 1.5 years of growth per school year.
Additionally, my students currently attend a school with a 96% free/reduced lunch status.
My Project
Of course, in order to encourage reading, students need to read high interest books that are on their reading level. If a student reads above his or her reading level, frustration occurs. If a student reads below his or her reading level, boredom ensues. Having a high interest leveled library will ensure students are reading books on their level and thus foster a literary appreciation.
By donating to my project, students will have texts on their reading and interest level.
As Dr. Seuss states, the more students read, the more knowledge they will attain. This knowledge will serve our mission to prepare our students to succeed in high school and excel in college!
